Fleas can get into the house through various avenues more especially through pets and once they get into the house the challenging question is how to get rid of them from the house. The following are various ways which can be used in order to learn how to get rid of fleas in your house:
How to get rid of fles in your house completely?
Cleaning up the home: this is the most fundamental method to apply when you want to get rid of fleas from the house and this may include:
- Washing the pet’s beddings; this include all the beddings where the pet lie or sleep on a regular basis as they are likely to be harboring fleas and/or their eggs. Therefore, by throwing all these into the washing machine, it will ensure that all the fleas and their eggs are destroyed hence destructing their life cycle and ultimately alleviating them from the house. This method is preferred as it does not have any side effects and any dangers to the user and the rest of the people in the house.
- Use of insect growth regulator; Insect regulators contain substances/compounds which are able to break the life cycle of fleas at the larvae stage. From the larvae stage, fleas are not able to progress to the adult stage when growth inhibitors are used. Most of these inhibitors are in spray form and they contain substances such as methoprene which help in regulation of growth of fleas. These sprays are usually sprayed on any material where pets love to sleep or rest and this can be done twice a day while making sure that there is no much air blowing in the house as this is likely to affect the concentration of the spray hence reducing its effectiveness.
- Vacuum cleaning the house; this is important as it allows the removal of fleas from every surface and corner of the house. While doing this, it is advisable that the motion of pets be restricted and this can be achieved by confining them for example in a bathroom to avoid fleas they may be carrying from jumping into the areas/surfaces that have been vacuum cleaned. While vacuum cleaning, it is important to focus on those areas that do not receive enough sunlight exposure, crevices, furniture among other areas where fleas and their larvae may be hiding. Also when the vacuum bag is full, seal it in a trash bag and put it outside in the trash container so as to keep fleas as far away from the house as possible.
Clearing of the backyard is another effective method that will help in getting rid of fleas in a home. This is because moist spots around the compound will create enabling conditions for fleas larvae to flourish into adults which will finally get into the house. Therefore before allowing your pets to get outside, make sure that foliage and grasses around the compound are cleared.
Giving pets a bath; this can be done by use of flea shampoo with the right insecticide such as d-limonene, chlorpyrifos among others. The shampoo should be chosen carefully so as to avoid causing irritation to the pet and people around. This bathing should start with the neck then the rest of the body to avoid fleas jumping into the head. Then after washing, apply a flea killing product which may be having insect growth regulators hence facilitate their killing thus getting rid of them from the house.
Use of a close toothed comb; these are specifically designed combs that are used to remove fleas from the fur of the pet. This is because fleas may tend to grip onto the pet’s fur and therefore by use of a comb with close teeth, it will be very effective in removing them hence clear the fleas from the house.
Other natural methods that can be used to get rid of fleas from the house include: Yeast- by rubbing brewer’s yeast on your pet’s skin it will kill fleas hence getting rid of them; citrus sprays can be made from lemon and sprayed in the house in the morning and in the evening more especially in those areas that you suspect fleas to be hiding. This citrus spray can also be used to dampen the fur of your pet which will ultimately lead into killing fleas hence eradicating them from your house.
